It has been a wild two years since the stock market crash of October 2008. During the eight trading days from October 1st -October 10th, 2008, the DJIA dropped 2,399 points or 22%. The Dow would eventually drop all the way to about 6800 in March 2009 and has since risen about 70% to 11,555 today.
So who are the world’s best investors? My top four and a famous quote they are well-known for:
1) Warren Buffett: The Oracle of Omaha and Chairman of Berkshire Hathaway. A $10,000 investment in Berkshire Hathaway in 1965 would be worth $50 million today. “The first rule is not to lose money. The second rule is not to forget the first rule.”
2) Peter Lynch: The most famous mutual fund manager. He managed Fidelity’s Magellan Fund in 1978 with assets of $20 million and when he retired in 1990, Magellan Fund had assets of $14 billion. “Everyone has the brain power to follow the stock market. If you make it through fifth-grade math, you can do it.”
3) Benjamin Graham: The Father of Value Investing and mentor of Warren Buffett. “To achieve satisfactory investment results is easier than most people realize, to achieve superior results is harder than it looks.”
4) Charles Munger: Vice Chairman of Berkshire Hathaway and Warren Buffett’s right hand man. “Take a simple idea and take it seriously.”
Unfortunately, I did not make the list this year but 2011 is another year and another opportunity. The link below is the top five investors according to today’s issue of the Wall Street Journal-online edition. Happy Investing. http://www.smartmoney.com/investing/stocks/worlds-greatest-investors/
